Well really, looking back now, the original statement they had put out about cancelling the european dates pretty much explained things just as they are.  A lot of us started to read into that and worry that they may be breaking up, but that was just us losing our heads; Shirl and the boys (and the management) knew there was nothing to worry about, so from their perspective they may not have forseen the fans reading too much into it.  But now that these newspaper articles have actually gone and PRINTED these misconstrued ideas, it's become much more apparent that people were worrying, hence this new statement clarifying the situation.
 
Anyway, that's just my take on it; I always take the optimistic approach.  And besides that, Shirley has repeatedly warned/reminded us over the years not to believe everything we read about them in magazines and such ;)
