Italian tech star Dusty Kid chatted to Skrufff this week about his high profile tech-rock remix of the Pet Shop Boys’ upcoming single Leaving and revealed he was inspired by horror film auteur Alfred Hitchcock.

“The sound of my remix is maybe it is not what you are used to hear in a Dusty Kid production, though maybe some elements are still familiar,” he suggested, “It has a very English/70s’ rock oriented vibe which I think fits well with their vocals – I like the tension throughout the piano and string parts, that gives the track a sinister/ Hitchcock spirit,” he suggested.

Growing up in Sardinia he also paid tribute to the impact the British duo had on him in as he was studying classical musical at a prestigious musical conservatory in Italy.

“I clearly remember the first time I heard Paninaro, I was just a child but I was immediately fascinated by its electronic sound,” he recalled, “I’m still a big fan of theirs and I was really surprised when I received their remix request.”

Performing in Berlin at Sisyphos last weekend, he dropped several Berghain style uber-dark techno tracks during his set, and revealed he’s musically moving far away from his releases of the last few years.

“My new album is almost finished and it will be very underground, ambient and techno,” he said.

“People will be probably disoriented cause it doesn’t really sound as the previous albums, but it is also not a 2.0 Ravers Diary or similar. I really wanted to make something new.”

Pet Shop Boys- Leaving is out on Parlophone on October 14.
