Hi there Tom,

There are benefits to the Daily Mail of doing it, otherwise they wouldn't be
doing it. People buy the Daily Mail due to having the free thing on the
front, when they might buy another newspaper or no newspaper instead. In 
addition, it is good publicity for them in general, and they become known as 
'the paper that gives away music and films'.

As a result, on that day their circulation is higher than it would otherwise
be, and higher as a whole due to some of those people continuing to buy the
mail in the future.

One thing you can rely on is that they're not doing it as a gift to
humanity.
