The article is about 6 artists and their mentors.
There is a small write up next to the picture.
Shirley's wearing a red dress with black and orange
stockings. I noticed an error in the article. I'm sure
you'll spot it too. I would have scanned it already,
but I don't have a scanner anymore, sorry.

On the contents page:

Page 164 Up Close - Six hot singers, from Norah Jones
to Shirley Manson, and their inspirations.
<Small picture of the 2 on the bottom of the page; you
can see Shirley's face on this one>

Main Article:

"You're the Inspiration" by James Patrick Herman

For each of the six young musicians pictured on these
pages, there's a fellow artist who strikes a chord.
Here they get a chance to sing their idol's praises
(and hear alittle feedback too).

Kelly Rowland and Patti LaBelle
Norah Jones and Etta James
Stevie Nicks and Michelle Branch
Alison Krauss and Dolly Parton
Vanessa Carlton and Carole King
Shirley Manson and Deborah Harry

The fan: Shirley Manson, frontwoman for the rock band
Garbage, which is working on its fifth album
(Interscope).

The idol: Deborah Harry, lead singer of the
groundbreaking N.Y.C. band Blondie, whose new album,
The Curse of Blondie, is due out this fall.

Manson on Harry: "I remember seeing the video for
'Rapture' and thinking, Who the hell is she? I hated
her immediately because she was just so beautiful.
Nobody has been as stylish and as beautiful as Debbie
Harry. She's knock-down, to-die-for perfection. If we
had to name one person as the pop cultural icon -- so
that a thousand years from now people could see why
the world was obsessed with pop stars -- she, to me,
would be it. I was on tour last year with No Doubt,
and Gwen Stefani and I went onstage at the end of the
night and sang 'Call Me' as a tribute. But neither of
us could hit the high notes. I don't think she was
really recognized as a great singer because of how
beautiful she is."

Harry on Manson:
"She's scottish, so she has a great rock and roll
spirit -- rebellious, stubborn, strong. I first met
her when she was a little girl singing backup for a
band called Goodbye Mr. Mackenzie. They opened for
Blondie in Glasgow at this ballroom. Everybody was
pogoing. And she just stood there. She was terrific.
She had it all."

a limo in New York City.>

Enjoy the write up,
