From psbfan at geowayne.com Thu Apr 4 22:37:19 2019 From: psbfan at geowayne.com (Wayne Studer) Date: Thu, 4 Apr 2019 22:37:19 -0700 Subject: [Introspective] Poll ends soon on your three favorite non-studio PSB albums Message-ID: <9154fae9-3cd6-5a09-269b-bd4dd977a21c@geowayne.com> Hey there! Tomorrow (Saturday) is the last full day of my current poll, which asks you to choose your three favorite non-studio albums (compilations, hits collections, live albums, special projects, "Discos") by the Pet Shop Boys. If you haven't chosen yet, please take a moment to visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and place your votes right there on my home page. On Sunday I will end this poll, post the final results, and launch a new survey for the two weeks ahead. Thanks to everyone who has already voted! And I hope you all have a fabulous weekend! And the three albums that received the most votes were: * Alternative, picked by 65.2% of the voters; * Relentless, selected by 40.0%; and * Disco, chosen by 30.0%. To see the complete results, please visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and select one of the "Past Survey Results" options in the top navigation bar or click the appropriate link on my "What's New?" page. My new survey for the two weeks ahead is inspired by a negative comment made last year by Rod Stewart in which he criticized Elton John's current "farewell tour," saying that it "stinks of selling tickets" and that "retirement tours" in general were "dishonest." So I'm wondering how you would feel about a possible "retirement tour" by the Pet Shop Boys. I've listed several statements that express different views on this, and I'm asking you to pick the one that comes closest to your own feelings. Please take a moment to make your choice right there on my home page. And thanks so much to porkchopkid for suggesting this intriguing question! Thanks as well to everyone who voted in my previous survey! And I wish you all a great two weeks ahead! Wayne http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm From psbfan at geowayne.com Wed Apr 17 21:10:24 2019 From: psbfan at geowayne.com (Wayne Studer) Date: Wed, 17 Apr 2019 21:10:24 -0700 Subject: [Introspective] Poll ends soon on whether you would like PSB to eventually have a "retirement tour" Message-ID: <0c4d1729-0111-a023-1923-1894f53333e7@geowayne.com> Hey there!  Because I have an extremely busy Easter weekend ahead of me, I've decided to end my current Pet Shop Boys poll and deploy my new one roughly 12 hours earlier than usual this weekend. What that means is that for my site visitors here in the Western Hemisphere, my survey-changeover will probably occur late Saturday morning or early afternoon; for those of you in Europe, it will be late Saturday afternoon or early evening; in India it will be late Saturday night; and if you're in East Asia, it should be more like the wee hours of Sunday morning. In other words, tomorrow (Friday) will be, at least for most of you, the last full day of my current poll, in which I'm asking whether you would prefer, when the time comes, for the Pet Shop Boys to have an announced final "retirement tour" or, by contrast, for them simply to "fade away" without any pre-announced final tour. So if you haven't voted yet, please take a moment to visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and make your choice from the options provided right there on my home page. On *Saturday* I will end this poll, post the final results, and kick off a new one for the two weeks ahead. Thanks to everyone who has already voted! I hope you all have a wonderful weekend -- and, if you observe the holiday (and even if you don't), I wish you a very happy Easter! Wayne http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm From psbfan at geowayne.com Sat Apr 20 10:10:38 2019 From: psbfan at geowayne.com (Wayne Studer) Date: Sat, 20 Apr 2019 10:10:38 -0700 Subject: [Introspective] Final results of poll on whether PSB should have a "retirement tour" Message-ID: <7e45f72a-fa9a-93ca-521c-d6f9f09d973c@geowayne.com> The final results are in for my poll of the past two weeks, in which I asked my site visitors whether they believe the Pet Shop Boys, when the time comes, should formally announce a "retirement tour." And the response that received the most votes was: * "No, I don't want them to announce in advance whether any given tour is their 'final' or 'retirement tour.' I agree it would be best for them just to 'fade away' from touring without any advance announcement," chosen by 48.4% of the voters. To see the complete results, please visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and select one of the "Past Survey Results" options in the top navigation bar or click the appropriate link on my "What's New?" page. My new poll for the next two weeks is a "sequel" to one that I ran nearly 14 years ago, in May 2005, when I asked which PSB single b-sides my site visitors preferred to their respective a-sides. At that time, "Miserablism" (the b-side of "Was It Worth It?") came out on top. When another site visitor recently wrote to me to suggest that I make this the subject of an upcoming survey, I replied that the number of b-sides -- especially considering that so many PSB singles have more than one "b-side" -- was now so daunting that I would have to split it into at least two polls. But since then I've decided against asking again about all of those earlier singles and b-sides. Instead, I'll focus exclusively on the singles and b-sides released since that previous survey. So that's the subject of this new poll: which Pet Shop Boys single b-sides released since May 2005 do you prefer to the a-side? So please take a little time to give this some thought and make your choices right there on my home page. And thanks so much to Danny Bende for suggesting this question! In the meantime, thanks as well to everyone who voted in my previous survey! I hope you all have a great remainder of the weekend and week ahead, and to all of you who observe the holiday, I wish you a wonderful Easter! Wayne http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm
