Tomorrow (Saturday) is the last full day of my current poll, which asks you to designate your "Pet Shop Boys highlight" of 2017. If you haven't voted yet, please take a moment to visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and make your choice from options provided right there on my home page. On Sunday I will end this poll, post the final results, and kick off a new survey for the week ahead. Thanks to everyone who has already voted! And I hope you all have a marvelous weekend! Wayne http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm From psbfan at geowayne.com Sat Jan 6 22:06:24 2018 From: psbfan at geowayne.com (Wayne Studer) Date: Sat, 6 Jan 2018 22:06:24 -0800 Subject: [Introspective] Final results of poll on the "PSB highlight" of 2017 Message-ID: The final results are in for my poll of the past week, in which I asked my site visitors to designate what they consider to be the "Pet Shop Boys highlight" of 2017. And (perhaps not surprisingly) the choice that received the most votes was: * "The reissues of Nightlife, Release, Fundamental, Yes, and Elysium with Further Listening bonus discs," picked by 49.7% of the voters. To see the complete results, please visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and either select one of the "Past Survey Results" options in the top navigation bar or click the appropriate link on my "What's New?" page. My new poll for the week ahead lists singles by the Pet Shop Boys and asks you to pick the one that has reached your "lifetime hearing quota" --  in other words, you've heard it so much (or you dislike it so much) that you might just as soon never hear it again. Of course, chances are excellent that you don't feel this way about any of them. If that's indeed the case, which one do you think has the greatest risk of achieving that dubious status at some point? Or if by some small chance more than one of them has overstayed its welcome, which one are you most tired of? (And, no, I'm not offering a "None of them" option because that would be just too easy.) Thanks to Martijn for suggesting this poll question! And thanks to everyone who voted in last week's survey! I hope you all have a fantastic week ahead! Tomorrow (Saturday) is the last full day of my current poll, which asks which Pet Shop Boys single has reached your "lifetime hearing quota," or has at least come closest to or is most likely to hit that dubious status for you. (If it's more than one, which one is the "worst offender," so to speak?) If you haven't voted yet, please take a moment to visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and make your choice right there on my home page. On Sunday I will end this poll, post the final results, and start a new survey for the week ahead. Thanks to everyone who has already voted! And I hope you all have a marvelous weekend! And the single that, in this case, earned the dubious distinction of receiving the most votes was: * "Go West," chosen by 9.6% of the voters. It was a close one, however, in which only a single vote separated each of the top four vote-getters. To see the complete results, please visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and select one of the "Past Survey Results" options in the top navigation bar, or click the appropriate link on my "What's New?" page. My new poll for the week ahead asks you to imagine that you've been given the task of compiling a 12-song Pet Shop Boys compilation album titled "Ballads" -- a collection of their greatest ballads, though limited to songs that they wrote (or co-wrote) themselves; no covers allowed. Which 12 PSB songs would you choose for this compilation? So please make your choices from the candidates I've provided right there on my home page (including the common "Some other song not listed here" option). And thanks so much to Bill B. for suggesting this terrific question! Thanks as well to everyone who voted in last week's survey! And I hope you all have a superb week ahead! And the 12 songs that received the most votes are: * "Being Boring," picked by 62.6% of the voters, * "King's Cross," picked by 54.8%, * "Jealousy," chosen by 46.2%, * "Dreaming of the Queen," selected by 42.4%, * "It Couldn't Happen Here," picked by 41.6%, * "Do I Have To?" also chosen by 41.6%, * "It Always Comes as a Surprise," picked by 41.4%, * "You Only Tell Me You Love Me When You're Drunk," selected by 36.8%, * "Only the Wind," tapped by 36.6%, * "Later Tonight," chosen by 34.1%, * "Liberation," picked by 33.8%, and * "King of Rome," selected by 33.5%. A pretty good album, wouldn't you say, even if it is imaginary? To see the complete results, please visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and select one of the "Past Survey Results" options in the top navigation bar or click the appropriate link on my "What's New?" page. My new poll for the week ahead is something of a "flipside" to the one that I ran week-before-last, using the exact same set of songs. If you recall, two weeks ago I asked you to pick the PSB single that had reached (or had come closest to reaching) your "lifetime hearing quota." But this time I'm asking you to pick the single that is, in your opinion, the biggest earworm -- the one that, after hearing (or even after just thinking about it) is the most difficult to get out of your head. (This could be true right now or at any time in the past.) In other words, while the earlier survey dealt with songs you're not very interested in hearing again, this week's question concerns songs that (if you're anything like me) you actually become somewhat desperate to hear again, or at least keep "replaying" in your mind because of their "earwormy" quality. So please mull this over and, when you're ready, make your choice right there on my home page. And thanks so much to Richard A. for suggesting this question! Thanks as well to everyone who voted in last week's survey! And I hope you all have a great week ahead! And the single that received the most votes was: * "Always on My Mind," chosen by 8.3% of the voters. Strangely appropriate, don't you think, that "Always on My Mind" should be the most earwormy single? ;-)  At any rate, to see the complete results, please visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and either select one of the "Past Survey Results" options from the top navigation bar or click the appropriate link on my "What's New?" page. My past several surveys involved a very large number of choices, so I decided for this week's new poll to go in the opposite direction and ask a question with just two choices. I'm wondering, if you had to choose between buying tickets and attending a live PSB concert and going the far less expensive route of purchasing a DVD/Blu-ray (or even a streaming option) of the same show, which would you prefer? (Your answer should be based on your actual current circumstances: finances, location, whether you've ever attended a live PSB show before, and so on.) So please mull this over and make your choice right there on my home page. And thanks so much to porkchopkid for suggesting this question -- as it so happens, quite some time ago. Thanks as well to everyone who voted in last week's survey! And I hope you all have a terrific week ahead! Wayne http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm
