From psbfan at geowayne.com Thu Apr 5 21:42:35 2018 From: psbfan at geowayne.com (Wayne Studer) Date: Thu, 5 Apr 2018 21:42:35 -0700 Subject: [Introspective] Poll ends soon on PSB tribute bands Message-ID: <37e90b63-9a96-7207-6655-4e3058fea291@geowayne.com> Hey there! Tomorrow (Saturday) is the last full day of my current poll, which is a multi-part question involving Pet Shop Boys tribute bands: (1) Have you ever seen one? (2) If so, do you think they were good at paying tribute to PSB? and (3) Which of several listed statements do you agree with concerning PSB tribute bands? If you haven't yet taken part, please take a few moments to visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and make your choices right there on my home page. (But please note that, on account of circumstances beyond my control, my website may be "down" for a few hours this weekend, scheduled for the early morning hours of Saturday, U.S. Eastern Time. I've made note of this on my "What's New?" page, so please plan accordingly.) Assuming my site is back up and running, on Sunday I will end this poll, post the final results, and launch a new survey for the week ahead. Thanks to everyone who has already voted! And I hope you all have a fabulous weekend! Wayne http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm From psbfan at geowayne.com Sat Apr 7 22:04:19 2018 From: psbfan at geowayne.com (Wayne Studer) Date: Sat, 7 Apr 2018 22:04:19 -0700 Subject: [Introspective] Final results of survey on PSB tribute bands Message-ID: <404698ca-c02f-ae01-e347-e0e6ed79f6c3@geowayne.com> The final results are in for my survey of the past week, in which I asked several questions on the subject of Pet Shop Boys tribute bands. And the majority/plurality responses to each question were: 1. Have you ever seen a Pet Shop Boys tribute band? * "No, I've never seen a PSB tribute band either 'live' or on video," picked by 68.0% of the voters. 2. If so, do you think they were good at paying tribute to PSB? * "Not applicable - I've never seen a PSB tribute band," picked by 63.8% 3. With which of the following statements do you agree with regard to PSB tribute bands? * "There's no 'should' about it when it comes to patronizing a PSB tribute band. Fans should do whatever they want to," chosen by 87.1%, and * "A PSB tribute band should 'mix it up," performing some songs as much as possible like PSB, but also throwing in something new and different at times," selected by 39.5%. To see the complete results, please visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and select one of the "Past Survey Results" in the top navigation bar or click the appropriate link on my "What's New?" page. My new poll for the week ahead is conceptually much simpler than last week's. In the past, when I've asked my site visitors about their favorite PSB albums in general, the votes have leaned heavily toward those released during the first half of their career, and especially toward the first decade. But what if we remove those earlier albums from consideration? What happens when votes that would ordinarily have gone toward earlier albums are "diverted" to later albums? So this week I'm asking you to pick your favorite post-millennial PSB studio album. In other words, if you could only choose from those released since the year 2000, which one would you pick? Thanks so much to Peter Sylvén for suggesting this intriguing question! And thanks to everyone who voted in last week's survey! I hope you all have a wonderful week ahead! Cara Delevingne and Matt Smith star in VERY festive Burberry campaign set to a retro Pet Shop Boys soundtrack (and the supermodel even shows off her singing skills) http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-5039111/Cara-Delevingne-Matt-Smith-star-Burberry-advert.html Brit stars Cara Delevingne and Matt Smith have teamed up for a Christmassy fashion campaign for Burberry as the fashion world gears up for the festive season. The 25-year-old supermodel, who has worked with the label since 2010, showcases her edgy new pixie cut in the images which have been shot by British photographer Alasdair McLellan. The stunning snaps are accompanied by a 30-second video of Doctor Who star Matt and Cara, set to a soundtrack of Always On My Mind, the 1988 hit from Pet Shop Boys, which was also captured by McLellan. The campaign, which was announced on Cara’s Instagram page on Wednesday morning, celebrates 'the British character and charm of Burberry’s new collection', which debuts in store and online today. https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=15&v=R3UGSxMehA0 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-5039111/Cara-Delevingne-Matt-Smith-star-Burberry-advert.html Speaking about her latest starring role, Cara gushed: ‘I am so proud to share this new shoot I did with Alasdair McLellan and Matt Smith. 'Thank you to the creative genius and my dear friend Christopher Bailey for involving me in this and all the incredible projects over the years. 'It has been and always will be a joy to work with you and the Burberry family.’ Delevingne was propelled to fame after being scouted by Bailey in 2010 while working for a fashion website. The new collection, available in store and online from Tuesday, includes chunky knits, scarves, bags, and their signature trench coats. It is described by the British fashion house as 'a clash of fabric, pattern and colour'. Smith, 35, said: ‘Burberry has always been a brand that I have admired. From the football stands to the macs on the runway. 'The chance to work with Christopher, who with his design and vision, has contributed so much to a brilliant British brand and indeed left a footprint not only on fashion but British culture itself, is a huge privilege. 'Working with both Alasdair McLellan and Cara Delevingne, two fashion and creative heavyweights, was also very appealing, and made partnering for this campaign an easy choice for me.’ ____________________________________________________________ She's 59 But Look's The Same Age As Her Daughter risingstarnewspaper.com http://thirdpartyoffers.juno.com/TGL3141/5ac9a40ac65eb240a5fbfst04vuc From psbfan at geowayne.com Thu Apr 12 21:38:57 2018 From: psbfan at geowayne.com (Wayne Studer) Date: Thu, 12 Apr 2018 21:38:57 -0700 Subject: [Introspective] Poll ends soon on your favorite post-millennial PSB album Message-ID: Hey there! And the album that received the most votes was: * "Yes," picked by 28.9% of the voters. "Yes" took the lead early on and held on to it nearly the whole week, although for much of that time it was a very close contest between it and it's two closest runners-up, "Electric" and "Fundamental." To see the complete results, please visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and select one of the "Past Survey Results" options in the top navigation bar, or click the appropriate link on my "What's New?" page. My new survey for the week ahead is the first of two parts. In this first part, I've listed my least favorite song from each PSB album (including the "Tennant-Lowe" releases but not counting hits compilations, live sets, and first two Disco albums, and one or two other anomalies), and I'm asking you to indicate which ones happen to be your own *favorite* song from that album. Of course, there's the familiar "none of the above" option in case none of my least-favorite songs happen to be your favorites. So please take a few moments to check them out and make your choices right there on my home page. Incidentally, in case you're wondering what "Part 2" will be, it's the exact opposite: I'll list my favorites and ask whether any of them are your least favorites. But that's for next time. Meanwhile, thanks to everyone who voted in last week's survey! And I hope you all have a superb week ahead! One of the voters in that survey, a regular site visitor who goes by the name leesmapman, suggested that I run a similar poll on what you all regard as the Boys' funniest video -- that is, the one that you find most amusing. And, yes, I'm limiting you this time to picking just one, not three. Thanks for a great suggestion, leesmapman! And thanks as well to everyone who voted in last week's survey.
