Tomorrow (Saturday) is the last full day of my current poll, in which I ask you to choose the Pet Shop Boys studio albums that best correspond to each season of the year -- in other words, the "most summery," the "most autumnal," the "most wintry," and the "most vernal (spring-like)." If you haven't voted yet, please take a few moments to visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and make your choices right there on my home page. On Sunday I will end this poll, post the final results, and launch my new survey for the week ahead. Thanks to everyone who has already voted! And I wish you all a fantastic weekend! (And for those of you in the path of a major storm, I hope it's a *safe* one!) And the albums that received the most votes for each season of the year were: * "Bilingual," chosen by 51.8% of the voters as the "most summery"; * "Behaviour," picked by 51.3% as the "most autumnal"; * "Behaviour," picked by 22.6% as the "most wintry"; and * "Very," selected by 28.7% as the "most vernal (spring-like)." To look at the results another way, here are the seasons chosen by the largest number of voters per album: * "Most summery" - Introspective, Bilingual, and Electric; * "Most autumnal" - Behaviour; * "Most wintry" - Nightlife, Release, Fundamental, and Elysium; * "Most vernal" - Please, Actually, Very, Yes, and Super. To see the complete results, please visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and select one of the "Past Survey Results" options from the top navigation bar or click the appropriate link on my "What's New?" page. My new survey for the week ahead -- yes, I'm now returning to my traditional weekly schedule -- is my latest "Rating Project" poll, in which I ask you to rate a set of Pet Shop Boys songs on a scale of 0 to 10 according to how you feel they each compare with all other PSB songs (not songs by other artists), with 0 meaning "One of the very worst PSB songs ever," 5 meaning "Average for PSB," and 10 meaning "One of the very best PSB songs ever." This time around I'd like for you to rate the previously "unrated" songs that were released on the Further Listening discs accompanying the recent reissues of "Nightlife," "Release," and "Fundamental." So please register your ratings for these songs right there on my home page. Thanks to everyone who voted in my previous survey! I hope the week ahead rates as one of your very best! And if you're one of the millions in the path of Hurricane Irma (and are even able to read this right now), please do everything you can to stay safe! Our thoughts are with you! And from among these songs, the one that received the highest average rating was: * "Dancing in the Dusk," with an average rating of 6.600 (yes, exactly that!). And the song that received the lowest average rating in this poll was: * "Motoring," with an average rating of 4.599. My new poll for the week ahead deals with the Pet Shop Boys' music videos -- or, more precisely, with those directors who have helmed more than one of the videos for their singles. From this short list of just seven men I'd like for you to choose your personal favorite based on the PSB videos they directed. Or, to put it another way, who, in your opinion, has done the best job of directing multiple music videos for the Boys' singles? So please take a moment to make your choice on my home page. (For your convenience, I've listed the videos they've each directed right there.) Thanks to everyone who voted in last week's survey! And I hope you all have a superb week ahead! And the director who received the most votes was: * Howard Greenhalgh (director of "Can You Forgive Her?," "Go West," and ten other PSB videos), chosen by 35.7% of the voters. I think my new survey for the week ahead is a comparatively simple one. I'm just wondering about how often you hear Pet Shop Boys music on the radio these days, regardless of the radio format: terrestrial, satellite, or internet -- assuming, of course, you listen to the radio at all. (There's an option for those who don't, too.) Thanks to porkchopkid for suggesting this question! Thanks as well to everyone who voted in last week's survey! And I hope you all have a marvelous week ahead! And the response that received the most votes was: * "I never (or hardly ever) listen to the radio," picked by 35.9% of the voters. Of those who do listen to the radio, a plurality (21.3%) said that they hear PSB music "Maybe once every two or three months." To see the complete results, please visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and select one of the "Past Survey Response" options in the top navigation bar or click the appropriate link on my "What's New?" page. My new poll for the week ahead was inspired by an interview I heard on the radio several days ago in which a high-finance entrepreneur was talking about how his company was negotiating with several pop music artists to develop arrangements whereby they will offer "shares" or "bonds" on their past and/or future output, essentially enabling people to "invest" in their careers. The artists would receive a large upfront payment from this public offering, and the investors could with time possibly reap huge rewards from the dividends of their investment -- or, of course, as with any investment, they could lose their shirts, never earning back what they had invested. So this made me wonder how many PSB fans might be willing to "invest in the Pet Shop Boys" in this way. Would you be interested if the Boys were to engage in such an enterprise? So please mull this over and, when you're ready, make your choice from the options listed right there on my home page. Thanks to everyone who voted in last week's survey! And I hope you all have a very profitable week ahead! Wayne http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm
