From psbfan at geowayne.com Thu Jun 1 21:13:37 2017 From: psbfan at geowayne.com (Wayne Studer) Date: Thu, 1 Jun 2017 21:13:37 -0700 Subject: [Introspective] Poll ends soon on Neil's best "female narrator" Message-ID: Hey there! Tomorrow (Saturday) is the last full day of my current poll, in which I've listed the Pet Shop Boys songs that Neil has said he's singing from a "female perspective" -- in other words, his lyrical persona in the song is a woman -- and I'm asking you to pick the one in which you believe he does the best or most "convincing" job of portraying a female narrator. If you haven't voted yet, please take a moment to visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and make your choice right there on my home page. On Sunday I will end this poll, post the final results, and then launch a new survey. (But please note that, because of another commitment, I will probably be up to an hour or so a later than usual switching over to the new poll on Sunday.) Thanks to everyone who has already voted! And I hope you all have a terrific weekend! Wayne http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm From psbfan at geowayne.com Sat Jun 3 23:00:10 2017 From: psbfan at geowayne.com (Wayne Studer) Date: Sat, 3 Jun 2017 23:00:10 -0700 Subject: [Introspective] Final results of poll on Neil's best female persona in a PSB song Message-ID: The final results are in for my poll of the past week, in which I asked my site visitors to choose the Pet Shop Boys song in which they feel Neil does the best or most convincing job of portraying a female narrator. And the song that received the most votes was: * "Rent," picked by 38.9% of the voters. To see the complete results, please visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and select one of the "Past Survey Results" options in the top navigation bar, or click the appropriate link on my "What's New?" page. My new poll -- which will run for two weeks, as will all of my other polls for the summer months (though I reserve the prerogative of changing my mind about that) -- asks you to choose the PSB studio album that has the strongest "opening salvo" of three successive songs. In other words, which three songs in a row constitute what you believe to be the strongest opening of a Pet Shop Boys studio album? So please take a moment to make your choice right there on my home page. And thanks so much to Andrew Smith for suggesting this question! Thanks to everyone who voted in last week's survey! I hope you all have a fantastic couple weeks ahead! Tomorrow (Saturday) is the last full day of my current poll, which asks which Pet Shop Boys studio album has, in your opinion, the strongest "opening salvo" of first three songs? If you haven't voted yet, please take a moment to visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and make your choice right there on my home page. On Sunday I will end this poll, post the final results, and start a new survey for the next two weeks. Thanks to everyone who has already voted! And I hope you all have a marvelous weekend! And the album (and songs) that received the most votes was: * Nightlife: "For Your Own Good," "Closer to Heaven," and "I Don't Know What You Want But I Can't Give It Any More,"chosen by 18.1% of the voters. To see the complete results, please visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and select one of the "Past Survey Results" options in the top navigation bar or click the appropriate link on my "What's New?" page. My new survey for the next two weeks is inspired by the announcement this past week of the release date and track lineups of the upcoming reissues of "Nightlife," "Release," and "Fundamental." I'm simply wondering whether you're planning to buy (or have already pre-ordered) any or all of them. But I don't make it just a simple "yes or no" question. So please take a moment to make the appropriate choice(s) right there on my home page. In the meantime, thanks to everyone who voted in my previous survey! And I hope you all have a fantastic couple weeks ahead! Wayne http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm From psbfan at geowayne.com Wed Jun 28 22:02:34 2017 From: psbfan at geowayne.com (Wayne Studer) Date: Wed, 28 Jun 2017 22:02:34 -0700 Subject: [Introspective] Poll ends soon on whether you're buying the PSB album reissues Message-ID: <62aa8be3-727e-633d-6a8b-ae530278b32c@geowayne.com> Hey there! Something very unexpected has suddenly come up that will force me to be out of town and away from my computer most of the weekend. So instead of switching to my new Pet Shop Boys poll this Sunday as I had planned, I'm going to end it a day early and make the change on Saturday. So tomorrow, *Friday*, is the last full day of my current poll, in which I'm asking whether you are planning to buy (or have already pre-ordered) the reissues of the albums Nightlife, Release, and Fundamental with "Further Listening" bonus discs. If you haven't voted yet, please take a moment to visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and make your choice(s) right there on my home page. On Saturday I will end this poll, post the final results, and launch a new survey for the following two weeks. Thanks to everyone who has already voted! And I hope you all have a terrific weekend! Wayne http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm From psbfan at geowayne.com Fri Jun 30 21:08:34 2017 From: psbfan at geowayne.com (Wayne Studer) Date: Fri, 30 Jun 2017 21:08:34 -0700 Subject: [Introspective] Final results of poll on buying the PSB album reissues Message-ID: <2feb35af-98db-3525-632e-160f0aa637d2@geowayne.com> As I mentioned the other day, I'm making the switch from my old PSB poll to a new one a little early on account of something unexpected coming up that makes it impossible for me to do the "switch" tomorrow as originally planned. So -- the final results are in for my poll of the past two weeks (well, one day shy of two weeks), in which I asked my site visitors whether they were planning to buy the upcoming reissues of the Pet Shop Boys albums Nightlife, Release, and Fundamental. And, not surprisingly, the response that received the most votes was: * "Yes, I'm buying all of them!" picked by a whopping 71.5% of the voters. To see the complete results, please visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and select one of the "Past Survey Results" options in the top navigation bar or click the appropriate link on my "What's New?" page. My new poll for the next two weeks asks you to imagine yourself in the following scenario -- You've been asked by a DJ to put together a "killer, kick-ass dance set" -- to which people will actually be dancing -- consisting of exactly *five* Pet Shop Boys songs, most of which had made it onto the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart (or its antecedents by other names). So which five would you pick? Please take a few moments to check out the choices I've made available to you right there on my home page and make your selections. And thanks so much to porkchopkid for suggesting this great question (which I've modified a bit from his original suggestion). Thanks as well to everyone who voted in last week's poll. I wish you all a wonderful weekend and a great week ahead. (And please note that I will be unavailable -- pretty much out of touch, without access to my computer or my website -- for the next two days. I hope to be back, however, by Monday.)
