From psbfan at geowayne.com Thu Jul 13 21:29:57 2017 From: psbfan at geowayne.com (Wayne Studer) Date: Thu, 13 Jul 2017 21:29:57 -0700 Subject: [Introspective] Poll ends soon on five-song PSB dance set Message-ID: <156554de-acb6-2a16-fc64-ca94a86a8d6e@geowayne.com> Hey there! Tomorrow (Saturday) is the last full day of my current poll, in which I'm asking you to pick the five Pet Shop Boys songs that would, from your perspective, make the best "awesome, kick-ass" set for dancing. If you haven't already voted, please take a few moments to visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and make your choices right there on my home page. On Sunday I will end this poll, post the final results, and launch a new survey for the next two weeks ahead. (Please note, however, that on account of another commitment, there's a 50/50 chance I may be a little later than usual switching over to the new poll.) Thanks to everyone who has already voted! And I wish you all a fantastic weekend! Wayne http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm From psbfan at geowayne.com Sat Jul 15 22:47:17 2017 From: psbfan at geowayne.com (Wayne Studer) Date: Sat, 15 Jul 2017 22:47:17 -0700 Subject: [Introspective] Final results of poll on the best five-song PSB dance set Message-ID: <39f399f6-e966-ed05-45d5-62d6b4580208@geowayne.com> The final results are in for my poll of the past two weeks, in which I asked my site visitors to select the five Pet Shop Boys songs that they believe would constitute the most "awesome, kick-ass" dance set. And the five songs that received the most votes were: * "Vocal," chosen by 39.2% of the voters, * "Burn," picked by 35.0%, * "New York City Boy," chosen by 26.9%, * "Always on My Mind," selected by 25.5%, and * "It's a Sin," picked by 20.4%. To see the complete results, please visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and select one of the "Past Survey Results" options in the top navigation bar, or click the appropriate link on my "What's New?" page. My new poll for the next two weeks is based on the concept of "cognitive dissonance," which is the discomfort felt by someone when he or she is forced to confront seemingly contradictory beliefs, ideas, or values. In short, I'm wondering which Pet Shop Boys album caused you -- or perhaps *still* causes you -- the greatest cognitive dissonance, or something like it. To put it another way, which is the most unlike what you would have expected from them? So please take some time to ponder this and, when you're ready, make your choice right there on my home page. (And please note that this time, instead of offering just the studio albums to choose from, I'm including *every* PSB/Tennant-Lowe album.) In the meantime, thanks to everyone who voted in my previous survey! And I hope you all have a wonderful couple of weeks ahead! And the album that received the most votes was: * "Release," picked by 24.8% of the voters. To see the the complete results, please visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and select one of the "Past Survey Results" options in the top navigation bar or click th appropriate link on my "What's New?" page. It's much too soon for me to ask you to rate the previously unreleased but now newly released tracks on the recent round of album reissues. I'm going to hold off on that for at least two weeks, and perhaps four, to give you all time to hear them and to form good, solid opinions. Instead, my new poll for the next two weeks asks you to imagine an "alternate universe best-of album" consisting of 18 songs, evenly divided across the Boys' career from album to album (no more than one song from each disc), that were**not** released as singles but which nevertheless exemplify, in your opinion, PSB at their musical best. Which 18 songs would you choose? A daunting task, to be sure, but I hope a very enjoyable one. So please mull this over and make your choices right there on my home page. In the meantime, thanks to everyone who voted in my previous survey! And I hope you all have a great two weeks ahead!
