From psbfan at geowayne.com Sun Jan 1 01:11:00 2017 From: psbfan at geowayne.com (Wayne Studer) Date: Sun, 1 Jan 2017 01:11:00 -0800 Subject: [Introspective] Final results of poll on most anticipated 2017 PSB event Message-ID: <3ad1fba5-1cdb-150c-8acb-caaaae1dc816@geowayne.com> The final results are in for my poll of the past week, in which I asked my site visitors to pick the expected "Pet Shop Boys event" that they're most looking forward to in 2017. And the choice selected by the largest number of voters was: * "The expected reissue of their studio albums from 'Nightlife' through 'Elysium' with 'Further Listening' bonus discs," picked by a whopping 65.0% of the voters. To see the complete results, please visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and select one of the "Past Survey Results" options in the top navigation bar or click the appropriate link on my "What's New?" page. Unlike my past five surveys, my first new poll of 2017 is in no way tied to the season or the holidays. I'm asking which of the Pet Shop Boys' albums -- not counting their hits collections, the "Disco" albums, and the "Tennant-Lowe special projects" -- has the most apt title. Or, to put it another way, which album title do you believe most accurately reflects or describes the album's contents? Please mull this over and, when you're ready, make your choice right there on my home page. Thanks to everyone who voted in last week's survey! And I hope you all have a terrific week ahead -- and I wish you all a very happy, safe, and successful new year! Tomorrow (Saturday) is the last full day of my current poll, in which I'm asking which Pet Shop Boys album (not counting their hits collections, "Disco" albums, and Tennant-Lowe outside projects) has, in your opinion, the most "apt" title -- that is, the title that best describes or reflects the album's music, lyrics, style, and/or content? If you haven't voted yet, please take a moment to visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and make your choice right there on my home page. On Sunday I'll end this poll, post the final results, and launch a new survey for the week ahead. Thanks to everyone who has already voted! And I hope you all have a superb weekend! And the three songs that received the most votes were: * "Fugitive," picked by 39.8% of the voters, * "A Certain 'Je Ne Sais Quoi'," chosen by 33.8%, and * "In His Imagination," selected by 27.3%. There's been some discussion lately among PSB fans online as to whether there will or should be another single from "Super." So that's the subject of my new poll for the week ahead. Do you think there should be another "Super" single? And regardless of whether you think there should be, do you think there actually *will* be? So please take a moment to make your choice from the options I've listed on my home page. Meanwhile, thanks to everyone who voted in last week's survey! And the response that received the most votes was: * "I think there should be a fourth single, but I don't think there will be one," picked by 42.0% of the voters. My new survey for the week ahead comes in two parts: a "main" question followed by a closely related special "bonus" question. The main question asks which Pet Shop Boys studio album, in your opinion, takes them farthest from their musical "comfort zone"? To put it another way, on which studio album did they take their biggest musical risks, so to speak. The bonus question asks the exact same question, only this time with regard to their various major "special projects," such as their musical "Closer to Heaven," their film score "Battleship Potemkin," and their ballet "The Most Incredible Thing," among others. So please take a moment to make your choices right there on my home page. And thanks so much to long-time site visitor Miney (good to hear from you after along period of silence!) for suggesting these questions! And thanks to everyone who voted in last week's survey! I hope you all have a top-notch week ahead! Tomorrow (Saturday) is the last full day of my poll this week, which asks you to choose the Pet Shop Boys albums that take them farthest from their musical "comfort zone" -- on which they took the biggest risks by doing things musically they're not generally known for doing well. I've divided it into two parts, enabling you to answer for (1) PSB studio albums and (2) PSB/Tennant-Lowe "special projects," such as their stage musical, ballet, and film score. If you haven't voted yet, please take a moment to visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and make your choices from the two parts of this poll right there on my home page. And that albums that received the most votes were: * "Release," picked as the *studio* album that takes them farthest from their musical comfort zone by 67.3% of the voters; and * their ballet "The Most Incredible Thing" chosen as the PSB/Tennant-Lowe "special project" that takes them farthest from their comfort zone by 55.8%. My new poll for the week ahead sets up one of my occasional imaginary scenarios and calls for a choice based upon it. In this case, I'm listing twelve of the Boys' single b-sides that received the highest ratings in my periodic "Rating Project" surveys, and I'm asking you to imagine that they were never released before, but instead have just been released as the tracks on a brand new PSB studio album. How would you compare such an album with all of their other studio albums? Would it be one of their best? One of their weakest? Or somewhere in the middle? So please check out the list of songs and then make your choice from the options provided right there on my home page. Thanks to everyone who voted in last week's survey! And I hope you all have a wonderful week ahead! Wayne http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm
