From psbfan at geowayne.com Sat Apr 1 21:55:06 2017 From: psbfan at geowayne.com (Wayne Studer) Date: Sat, 1 Apr 2017 21:55:06 -0700 Subject: [Introspective] Final results of poll rating PSB albums compared to other artists' albums Message-ID: The final results are in for my survey this past week, in which I asked my site visitors to rate each of the Pet Shop Boys' albums on scale of 0 to 5 stars based on how they compare to all the other albums with which they're familiar, regardless of the artists. And the PSB album that received the highest average rating this time around was: * Behaviour, with an average rating of 4.388 stars. Overall, four albums -- Behaviour, Very, Actually, and Introspective -- received 5-star ratings more often than any other rating. And, as in last week's poll, Disco 2, received a "bomb" rating more often than any other rating. In general, PSB albums fared a little more poorly when judged against albums in general compared to last week's results, when they were judged simply on their own -- an outcome that somewhat surprises me. To see the complete results, please visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and either select one of the "Past Survey Results" options in the top navigation bar or click the appropriate link on my "What's New?" page. My new poll for the week ahead shifts gears quite a bit, asking you your opinion of the fact that the Pet Shop Boys recently, on their official website, promoted a "National March to Parliament" as part of the U.K. "Stop Brexit" movement. So please take a moment to make your choice from the options I've provided right there on my home page. I include options regarding them taking political stands in general as well as taking *this* stand in particular. Thanks to everyone who voted in last week's survey! And I hope you all have a marvelous week ahead! Tomorrow (Saturday) is the last full day of my current poll, which asks how you feel about the Pet Shop Boys recently promoting a "Stop Brexit" March to Parliament on their website. If you haven't voted yet, please take a moment to visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and make your choice from the options provided right there on my home page. On Sunday I will end this poll, post the final results, and kick of a new survey for the week ahead. Thanks to everyone who has already voted! And I hope you all have a delightful weekend! Wayne http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm From psbfan at geowayne.com Sat Apr 8 22:05:43 2017 From: psbfan at geowayne.com (Wayne Studer) Date: Sat, 8 Apr 2017 22:05:43 -0700 Subject: [Introspective] Final results of poll on PSB promoting a Stop Brexit event on their website Message-ID: The final results are in for my poll this past week, in which I asked my site visitors how they feel about the Pet Shop Boys recently promoting on their official website a "Stop Brexit" March on Parliament event. And the response that received the most votes was: * "In general, musicians have as much right to support political causes as anyone else, and the Pet Shop Boys should be commended for taking public stands on important issues like this," chosen by 51.5% of the voters. To see the complete results, please visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and select one of the "Past Survey Results" options from the top navigation bar or click the appropriate link on my "What's New?" page. My new poll for the week ahead anticipates the re-release sometime very soon the Pet Shop Boys studio albums released since the last batch of reissues in 2001. If you recall, each of those earlier albums -- from Please through Bilingual -- was reissued with a bonus "Further Listening" disc of assorted other tracks from the corresponding time-period: single b-sides, remixes, demos, and the like, some of them previously unreleased. In all likelihood the newer albums -- from Nightlife through Elysium -- will receive the same bonus-disc treatment when they're reissued. But some fans have been speculating online whether that first batch of reissues from 2001 will also be re-released at the same time. And, if so, would they have the exact same bonus "Further Listening" tracks, or will there be some new additions, presumably offered to encourage fans who purchased them the first time around to buy them again? So that's the subject of my question this week. If those older albums (Please through Bilingual) are reissued again -- and at this point we really don't know whether they will or not -- would you like for them to include new bonus material, or would you prefer that they be exactly the same as before? Please mull this over and make your choice from the options provided right there on my home page. In the meantime, thanks to everyone who voted in last week's survey! And I hope you all have a terrific week ahead! Tomorrow (Saturday) is the last full day of my current poll, which asks whether you would like for the re-reissues of the first six Pet Shop Boys albums (previously reissued in 2001, each with a bonus disc of additional tracks -- b-sides, remixes, demos, and the like) that will be coming out later this year when the next five albums are reissued to have any "new" bonus tracks that weren't included in 2001. (Hmmm -- that sounds a little complicated. But I think I phrased it more clearly in the poll itself.) If you haven't voted yet, please take a moment to visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm, check out the choices I've provided right there on my home page, and make the selection that most closely matches your own viewpoint. On Sunday I will end this poll, post the final results, and launch a new survey -- one that will run for two weeks while I take a brief sabbatical. Thanks to everyone who has already voted! And I hope you all have a wonderful weekend -- a wonderful Easter weekend for those of you who observe the holiday! Wayne http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm From psbfan at geowayne.com Sat Apr 15 22:07:47 2017 From: psbfan at geowayne.com (Wayne Studer) Date: Sat, 15 Apr 2017 22:07:47 -0700 Subject: [Introspective] Final results of poll on new bonus tracks on re-reissues of early PSB albums Message-ID: The final results are in for my poll of the past week, in which I asked my site visitors whether they would like for the re-reissues of the first six Pet Shop Boys studio albums (scheduled for release sometime this year along with first-time reissues of their five subsequent studio albums) to feature any new bonus tracks that were *not* included when they were previously reissued in 2001. And the response that received the most votes was: * "Yes! I'm always in favor of them releasing rare or previously unavailable tracks, and I'll gladly buy those albums again to get them!" chosen by 49.0% of the voters. To see the complete results, please visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and select one of the "Past Survey Results" options from the top navigation bar or click the appropriate link on my "What's New?" page. My new survey isn't just for the week ahead but for the entire remainder of April as I take a sabbatical for a little more than two weeks from website work, emails, and pretty much the internet and computers in general. This poll will therefore run "on its own," without my checking up on or commenting on the running results, until Monday, May 1. And the question itself is pretty simple and straightforward (though perhaps your choice won't be): I'm asking you to choose what you consider to be the best sequence of three consecutive PSB studio albums. So please ponder this and, when you're ready, make your choice right there on my home page. In the meantime, thanks to everyone who voted in last week's survey! I hope you all have a great second half of April, and I hope to be in touch again (and making site updates again) come the start of May. And Happy Easter to all of you who observe the holiday! Take care! And the series of three that received the most votes was: * Introspective - Behaviour - Very, chosen by 26.2% of the voters. To see the complete results, please visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and select one of the "Past Survey Results" options in the top navigation bar, or click the appropriate link on my "What's New?" page. My new poll (which will run for just six days instead of the usual seven) focuses on the Boys' most recent releases: the new remixes of "Undertow" and "Burn" plus the studio recording of the Super Tour arrangement of "Left to My Own Devices." So what do you think of each? – love? like? neutral? dislike? detest? Please make your choices right there on my home page. (And there are options for if you haven't them, too.) Thanks to everyone who voted in the previous survey! And thanks as well for your patience as I took my brief break from website work. I really appreciate it! I hope you all have a fantastic week ahead! Wayne
