From psbfan at geowayne.com Sat Jul 2 22:09:24 2016 From: psbfan at geowayne.com (Wayne Studer) Date: Sat, 2 Jul 2016 22:09:24 -0700 Subject: [Introspective] Final results of poll on PSB albums on vinyl Message-ID: <97e006ec-4ecf-9c97-4f4f-fae3b0cef094@geowayne.com> The final results are in for my poll this past week, in which I asked my site visitors which Pet Shop Boys albums they owned in vinyl (LP) format, as well as which of various statements about vinyl they agree with. And the responses that received the most votes were: * "Introspective" as the album owned by the largest number of voters on vinyl, picked by 43.6%, and * "I don't own any PSB albums on vinyl" as the separate statement picked by the largest number of voters, chosen by 33.6% (although that statistic demonstrates that a majority of the voters actually *do* own one or more PSB albums on vinyl). To see the complete results, please visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and either select one of the "Past Survey Results" options in the top navigation bar or click the appropriate link on my "What's New?" page. My new poll for the week ahead is inspired by a comment Neil recently made -- namely that "We've become electronic purists," which he said in relation to the work he and Chris have done with producer Stuart Price on their two most recent albums. I'm wondering how you feel about this statement. Do you agree or disagree? And, if you agree, do you *like* it? So please check out the options I've provided on my home page and make the choice that most closely coincides with your own viewpoint. And thanks to Daniel Dannypannic for his recent email that gave me the idea for asking this question! Thanks as well to everyone who voted in this past week's survey! I hope you all have a great week ahead! And to my fellow U.S. fans, I wish you a safe and happy Independence Day! Tomorrow (Saturday) is the last full day of my current poll, which asks your opinion of Neil's statement, in reference to the Pet Shop Boys' most recent albums, that "We've become electronic purists." If you haven't voted yet, please take a moment to visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and make your choice from the options provided right there on my home page. On Sunday I will end this poll, post the final results, and start a new survey for the week ahead. Thanks to everyone who has already voted! And I hope you all have a terrific weekend! And the viewpoint that received the largest number of votes was: * "I think Neil was being a bit facetious. He probably meant it as something of a joke or an intentional exaggeration," picked by 40.8% of the voters. To see the complete results, please visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and select one of the "Past Survey Results" options in the top navigation bar or click the appropriate link on my "What's New?" page. For my new poll for the week ahead, I've decided to have a little more fun than usual and adopt one of my very occasional fanciful scenarios, asking you to choose from an admittedly quite limited batch of classic PSB tracks the one that you believe would best serve as a "representative" selection under the special circumstances presented by the scenario. So please take a few moments to check it out and then make your selection right there on my home page. In the meantime, thanks to everyone who voted in last week's survey! And I hope you all have a fabulous week ahead! Tomorrow (Saturday) is the last full day of my current poll, which poses an imaginary scenario in which you're asked to choose what you think is the most "representative" Pet Shop Boys track from a selection of just ten. If you haven't voted yet, please take a few moments to visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and make your choice from the options provided right there on my home page. On Sunday I will end this poll, post the final results, and kick off a new survey for the week ahead. Thanks to everyone who has already voted! And, amidst the terrible news coming out of France this evening, I wish you all a safe and secure weekend. And the song that received the most votes -- by a *very* close margin -- was: * "Being Boring," chosen by 21.8% of the voters (beating out the second-runner-up, "Left to My Own Devices," by just one vote). To see the complete results, please visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and select one of the "Past Survey Results" options in the top navigation bar or click the appropriate link on my "What's New?" page. My new poll for the week ahead is inspired by the Pet Shop Boys' recent collaboration with Jean-Michel Jarre, "Brick England." Regular site visitor Daniel Dannypannic suggested that I ask you how you would feel about the prospect of additional PSB collaborations with Jarre, perhaps even including Jarre producing an entire album for the Boys. I've modified Daniel's original suggestion a bit, but the core idea for this survey is very much his. Thanks so much, Daniel! And thanks to everyone who voted in last week's survey! I hope you all have a splendid week ahead! And the response that received the most votes was: * "I would be in favor of one or more future PSB-Jarre collaborations, but not a *lot* of them, and I wouldn't want Jarre to produce an entire PSB album," picked by 30.8% of the voters. To see the complete results, please visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and select one of the "Past Survey Results" options in the top navigation bar or click the appropriate link on my "What's New?" page. My new survey for the week ahead may prove somewhat more controversial than most. I recently received an email from a regular site visitor and long-time PSB fan who expressed some serious reservations about the Boys' two most recent albums, "Electric" and "Super." In short, while he likes them both, he feels they're greatly lacking in certain ways compared to older PSB albums. I've provided his more detailed explanation (slightly edited by yours truly) right there on my home page with the poll itself, where I'm asking to what extent you happen to agree or disagree. So please take a moment to read his opinion and then make your choice from the options provided. And thanks so much to this site visitor -- who has asked in this case to remain anonymous -- for providing the stimulus for this question! Thanks as well to everyone who voted in last week's survey! And I hope you all have a marvelous week ahead! And the response that received the most votes was: * "I have very mixed feelings about this," chosen by 24.2% of the voters. My new poll for the week ahead zeroes in on PSB lyrics -- specifically the fact that they're especially rich in literary and historical references and allusions. I'm wondering how you feel about this. Do you like that aspect of their lyrics? Do you dislike it? Do you disagree with the premise of the question? Please take a moment to choose one of the responses offered right there on my home page. In the meantime, thanks to everyone who voted in last week's survey! And I hope you all have a fabulous week ahead! Wayne http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm
