Tomorrow (Saturday) is the last full day of my current poll, which asks you to choose what you believe to be the most summery Pet Shop Boys studio album -- that is, the one that best reflects or evokes in your mind a warm, bright, enjoyable mood of summer. If you haven't voted yet, please take a moment to visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and make your choice right there on my home page. On Sunday I will end this poll, post the final results, and kick off a new survey for the week ahead. Thanks to everyone who has already voted! And I wish you all a wonderful weekend, and a very happy and safe Independence Day to my fellow U.S. fans! Wayne http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm From psbfan at geowayne.com Sat Jul 4 22:06:18 2015 From: psbfan at geowayne.com (Wayne Studer) Date: Sat, 4 Jul 2015 22:06:18 -0700 Subject: [Introspective] Final results of poll on the most summery PSB album Message-ID: The final results are in for my poll this past week, in which I asked my site visitors what they consider to be the "most summery" Pet Shop Boys studio album. And the album that received the most votes (by far) was: * "Bilingual," chosen by a whopping 58.2% of the voters. To see the complete results, please visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and click one of the "Past Survey Results" options in the top navigation area or click the appropriate link on my "What's New?" page. My new poll for the week ahead is inspired by my realization that, here we are now nearly a full year following the live premiere (on July 23, 2014) of the Tennant-Lowe composition "A Man from the Future," yet there's still no sign or word of its official release as either a live or studio recording. So that makes me wonder whether you believe any such album ever *will* be released. So please think this over and then make your choice from the options provided right there on my home page. In the meantime, thanks to everyone who voted in last week's survey! And I hope you all have a phenomenal week ahead! Tomorrow (Saturday) is the last full day of my current poll, which asks your opinion of the chances for the eventual release of a studio recording of the Tennant-Lowe composition "A Man from the Future," which had its world premiere in a live performance a year ago this month. If you haven't voted yet, please take a moment to visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and make your choice from the options provided there on my home page. On Sunday I will end this poll, post the final results, and launch a new survey for the week ahead. Thanks to everyone who has already voted! And I hope you all have a terrific weekend! And the response that received the largest number of votes was: * "I doubt it will ever be released on account of its limited commercial appeal," chosen by 31.1% of the voters. To see the complete results, please visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and select one of the "Past Survey Results" options in the top navigation bar or click the appropriate link on my "What's New?" page. My new poll for the week ahead is inspired by an article I read some time ago about artists' "signature songs" -- the particular songs that, despite having had many other hits, certain established artists are best known for and are most closely identified with. In some cases they become the artist's virtual "theme song," or at least the song that they nearly always perform in their live performances. With this in mind, I think most of us would agree that, if the Pet Shop Boys have a signature song of their own, it's their first big hit, "West End Girls." The song they're best known for and most closely identified with -- right? So I'm wondering what you think of this. Do you believe "West End Girls" is a good signature song for them? Does it serve them well in that capacity? Or would it have been better if a different song had become their signature song? Or, for that matter, do you even agree with the premise that "West End Girls" *is* the PSB signature song? Please mull this over and make your choice from the options provided right there on my home page. In the meantime, thanks to everyone who voted in last week's survey! And I hope you all have a superb week ahead! Tomorrow (Saturday) is the last full day of my current poll, which asks how you feel about "West End Girls" being the Pet Shop Boys' "signature song" -- that is, the one song that they're most closely identified with or best known for, even though they've had a long career and success with many other songs. And the response that received the most votes was: * "Yes, I think 'West End Girls' is a *great* signature song for the Boys," picked by 54.1% of the voters. My new poll for the week ahead is inspired by a conversation I had recently with some friends about the remarkable "comeback" of vinyl over the past year or so as a popular format for record albums. This made me recall conversations and debates I had back in my college days as to which side of certain albums were the best: Side 1 or Side 2? And that in turn made me think of the Pet Shop Boys' own studio albums in vinyl format, wondering about which "side" of each PSB album you prefer, regardless of whether you own the vinyl edition of any given album. (Or in the special case of the vinyl edition of Electric, Disc 1 and Disc 2?) So please take a few moments to mull this over and make your choices right there on my home page. Thanks to everyone who voted in last week's survey! And I hope you all have a wonderful week ahead! And the final outcome is: * The majority or plurality of voters preferred "Side 1" of all but two of the Pet Shop Boys' studio albums, those two exceptions (in which "Side 2" was favored) being "Actually" and "Fundamental." To see the details, including the final percentage breakdowns, please visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and select one of the "Past Survey Results" options in the top navigation bar or click the appropriate link on my "What's New?" page. My new survey for the week ahead asks you to indicate which PSB albums -- this time including not only the studio albums but also various other collections (but excluding the hits collections, the live albums, the special "Tennant-Lowe projects," and the anomalous "Disco 4" (PSB remixes of other artists' tracks) -- you usually listen to all the way through in one sitting, and which ones find you usually skipping one or more tracks when you listen. (Again, this is what you *usually* do; obviously there are occasional exceptions either way.) Please take a few moments to make your choices right there on my home page. And thanks so much to Mark B for suggesting this question! Thanks as well to everyone who voted in last week's survey! And I hope you all have a superb week ahead!
