From psbfan at earthlink.net Sat Feb 1 22:12:59 2014 From: psbfan at earthlink.net (Wayne Studer) Date: Sat, 1 Feb 2014 22:12:59 -0800 Subject: [Introspective] Final results of poll on song to drop from 2014 Electric Tour Message-ID: The final results are in for my poll this past week, in which I asked my site visitors, if it were up to them to revise the setlist of the 2014 leg of the Electric Tour to replace one or more of the songs played on every date of the 2013 leg with other Pet Shop Boys songs of their choice, which songs they would replace. And, as it turns out, there was a tie among the choices that came out on top: * "Miracles" was the song chosen by the largest number of voters to be deleted from the setlist, picked by 18.0%. But -- * The exact same number of voters, 18.0%, chose "I wouldn't delete any of them -- not even to replace them with other songs of my choice!" To see the complete results, please visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and click one of the items on my home page or my "What's New?" page that will take you to past survey results. My new poll for the week ahead should be somewhat simpler. Back during the weeks of September 29 and October 6, 2013, I asked site visitors to indicate whether their opinions of each of the Boys' studio albums prior to "Electric" had changed with time and, if so, how. Well, I believe enough time has now passed since its release to ask that question of "Electric" as well. So, do you like it more than you did early on, less, or about the same? Please take a moment to mull this over and, when you're ready, make the appropriate choice from the options I've provided right there on my home page. In the meantime, thanks to everyone who voted in last week's survey! And I wish you all an outstanding week ahead! Tomorrow (Saturday) is the last full day of my current poll, which asks whether your general opinion of the Pet Shop Boys' most recent album, "Electric," has changed since you first heard it and, if so, how it has changed. If you haven't voted yet, please take a moment to visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and make your choice from the options provided right there on my home page. On Sunday I will end this poll, post the final results, and launch a new survey for the week ahead. And early voters should please note that, on account of an outside personal commitment, I will be somewhat later than usual -- probably by at least an hour or two -- switching over to my new poll this weekend. I apologize in advance for any inconvenience. Thanks to everyone who has already voted! And I hope you all have a great weekend! And the response chosen by a majority of voters was: * "No, my opinion hasn't changed. I like it now about as much as I did early on," selected by a whopping 60.4% of the voters. To see the complete results, please visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and click one of the options that will take you to "Past Survey Results," such as choosing it from the drop-down menu near the top, or selecting the appropriate link on my "What's New?" page. My new poll for the week ahead concerns the way in which our perceptions of what constitutes a "hit" varies among us. After all, just because a song is released as a single doesn't necessarily mean that it's a "hit." So longtime site visitor NastyChris from Italy suggested that I ask what you consider to be the Pet Shop Boys' last -- that is, most recent -- hit single. Was their most recent single, "Thursday," indeed a hit? Were any of the singles from "Electric" hits? Or do you have to go farther back in PSB history to find their most recent hit? To be honest, if I were to ask my fellow Americans -- at least those who aren't dedicated fans (like most of us) but with good memories and at least some substantive familiarity with the Boys -- what their "last" hit was, many if not most would probably say "Domino Dancing," their final U.S. Top 40 single. But of course the Boys have been far more commercially successful and have enjoyed many more hits in the U.K. and other countries. So what do *you* think? Thanks, NastyChris, for proposing this intriguing question! And thanks as well to everyone who voted in last week's survey! And I hope your week ahead proves a real "hit," too! ;-) Wayne http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm From psbfan at earthlink.net Thu Feb 13 21:29:27 2014 From: psbfan at earthlink.net (Wayne Studer) Date: Thu, 13 Feb 2014 21:29:27 -0800 Subject: [Introspective] Poll ends soon on the last PSB hit single Message-ID: <9221D6B6E6EE477EBCADD7C9446E360B@COMP8> Hey there! Tomorrow (Saturday) is the last full day of my current poll, which asks what, in your opinion, was the Pet Shop Boys last (that is, most recent) real *hit* single. (After all, different people in different places can define a "hit" in different ways.) If you haven't voted yet, please take a moment to visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and make your choice from the options (a list of PSB singles) provided right there on my home page. And the song that received the most votes was: * "Love etc." chosen by 38.2% of the voters (more than three times as many as the runner-up!). To see the complete results, please visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and click the Survey Results button in the top nav bar, select "Past Survey Results" from the top-left drop down menu, or click the appropriate link on my "What's New?" page. My new poll for the week ahead is the latest installment in my ongoing series of ratings surveys on the Pet Shop Boys' music video. This time I'm asking you to rate their most recent video, "Thursday," on a scale of 1 to 5 as it compares to other PSB videos, with 1 meaning one of their all-time poorest videos, 3 meaning an average PSB music video, and 5 meaning one of their all-time best. And in case you haven't seen it yet, I provide a link to it right there on my home page along with the poll itself. So please, when you have the chance, take a moment to take part in this survey. Meanwhile, thanks to everyone who voted in last week's survey! And I hope you all have an excellent week ahead! And the rating that received the largest number of votes was: * "3 ? An average PSB music video," chosen by 38.6% of the voters. And the *average* rating turned out to be 2.673 (since more voters rated the "Thursday" video less than 3 than greater than 3). My new poll for the week ahead asks you to choose what you personally consider to be the most "typical" and least "typical" Pet Shop Boys studio albums. Now, for "most typical," I don't necessarily mean your favorite PSB album or the one you think is best, but rather the one that strikes you as the most *like* them, however you perceive that to be. And the "least typical" album would be the one you consider to be the most *unlike* them. So please mull this over and, when you're ready, make your choices right there on my home page. In the meantime, thanks to everyone who voted in last week's survey! And I hope you have a far from typical week ahead -- but only as long as it's atypical in a very *good* way, that is. ;-) Wayne http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm From psbfan at earthlink.net Thu Feb 27 21:30:47 2014 From: psbfan at earthlink.net (Wayne Studer) Date: Thu, 27 Feb 2014 21:30:47 -0800 Subject: [Introspective] Poll ends soon on the most and least "typical" PSB albums Message-ID: <9FEC9FC2703249A68451E7522A2B7137@COMP8> Hey there!
