I agree, very cool. This is a great day for all 23 million Iraqis and
freedom-seeking Muslims everywhere. By 2034 I predict that in Iraq the
literacy rate will increase from 58% to 84%, infant mortality will drop
from 62 deaths per 1,000 live births to 25 deaths per 1,000 live
births, and life expectancy will increase from 66.5 years to 73 years.
And we'll see democracy come to Iran and China. :)

I guess you could say...I hope it's going to be alright.

About the quote: "Ladies and gentlemen, we got him" was how Major
General Ray Odierno, commander of the 4th Infantry Division, opened a
news briefing to announce the capture of Saddam Hussein.

In Major General Odierno's statement, "we" could refer to the 4th
Infantry Division, the United States military, the Coalition forces, or
the entire population of free peoples everywhere.

FYI, the Coalition includes the following sovereign nations:

Afghanistan, Albania, Angola, Australia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria,
Colombia, Costa Rica, Croatia, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark,
Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Eritrea, Estonia, Ethiopia, Georgia,
Honduras, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Kuwait, Latvia,
Lithuania, Macedonia, Malta, Micronesia, Mongolia, the Netherlands,
Nicaragua, Palau, Panama, the Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Romania,
Rwanda, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Solomon Islands, South Korea,
Spain, Tonga, Turkey, Uganda, Ukraine, United Kingdom, United States
and Uzbekistan.

>From http://www.geocities.com/pwhce/willing.html, an interesting site
on the Coalition forces, some commentary:

This list is particularly interesting because
of the patterns it doesn't produce, and the
under-reported patterns it does. The list
includes a number of Muslim countries, several
'old' European countries, wealthy OECD countries,
poorer countries, all ex-soviet Baltic States,
    all ex-soviet-dominated Central European States,
many other former soviet vassals (Ukraine,
Georgia, the Balkans except some Yugoslav States,
Uzbekistan), several Asian states and three
    South American states.

Interestingly, it includes all those countries
    which were conquered by the Soviets in the 1940s;
or to put it another way every country which
secured its freedom from totalitarianism in
    the 1989-1992 counter-revolutions

Statements of support from Coalition members can be found at
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2003/03/20030326-7.html. The
statements are from the elected leaders or cabinet-level members of the
representative governments.

A list of coalition members as of March of 2003 can be found at
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2003/03/20030327-10.html. Some
interesting things to think about from that list:

o The population of Coalition countries is approximately 1.23
billion people.
o Coalition countries have a combined GDP of approximately $22
trillion.
o Every major race, religion, ethnicity in the world is
represented.
o The Coalition includes nations from every continent on the globe.

Finally, a shout out to Spanish President Jose Maria Aznar for making
this all possible, and thanks to the EU member states for all the
bickering that led to the collapse of the EU constitution talks! No
thanks to the love haters in Germany, France and Russia...how about
retiring that debt for all the torture chambers and weapons system they
sold Saddam? Hmm?
