Subject: [Introspective] Final results of poll on buying "Super" and "The
	Pop Kids"

The final results are in for my survey this past week, in which I asked my 
site visitors whether they had bought (or were definitely planning to buy) 
the new Pet Shop Boys album "Super" and/or its first single, "The Pop 
Kids" -- and, if so, in which formats. And the choice that received the most 
votes was:

* "The album "Super" in CD format," selected by 73.2% of the voters.

Results" options in the top navigation bar, or click the appropriate link on 
my "What's New?" page.

With the release of "Super" a couple days ago, it shouldn't come as a 
surprise that my next several polls will concern it and its tracks in one 
way or another. I want to give everyone a little more time to acquire and 
"absorb" the album before I ask most of those questions, but my new poll for 
the week ahead is one that I feel fairly safe in asking right off the bat. 
I'm wondering how you think it compares in terms of overall quality with its 
immediate predecessor, "Electric" (also produced by Stuart Price). So please 
make your choice from the options provided right there on my home page. 
(And, by the way, I do offer an "I really can't say" option for those of you 
who haven't yet heard one or both of the albums, but if you have reason to 
believe that you *will* be able to hear "Super" before next Sunday, please 
hold off on voting until you've indeed had a chance to listen to the album.)

This is a return to the original sound that I fell in love with. I found most songs are Super and a couple are not. I also find that with other albums.

I can't help but compare it to the "new" Star Wars movie. It, too, went back to the original formula (some say back to the exact formula), but it was still fun experience.

The new albums has some bangers for sure and I'm definitely grooving.

The one big difference is less lyrics. I find that so strange since I've loved the lyrics over the years. Of course, I went to the sound, but loved the irony on the words. This album seemed less ironic, less tongue-in-cheek than the stuff I love the most.

Aww come on. "Building a wall," "Flamboyant," and particularly "A face like
that..." muhaha... that song title goes with no candidate other than Trump
and his comment, "Would anyone vote for that? Can you imagine that, the
face of our next president?" (Trump is certainly an example of American
exceptionalism. Exceptionally crazy, anyway.)

Kurt, you think they're phoning it in? I've been surprised by the lack of
reviews of the album on this group (but I have to issue the annual lament
that nobody seems to be in the group any more -- how many people *are*
 left???).

For my part I'm really liking Super! I'm very much looking forward to
seeing some of these tracks live. I'm enjoying "Twenty-something" a lot --
it's catty but classy in the same vein as "Your early stuff" and even
"Yesterday when I was mad." I've only heard the album like twenty times :-)
so it's too early to really rank it, but I'm not at all disappointed.
Although I turned 38 last month, "The pop kids" still makes me feel like
I'm discovering this band all over again in 1993 when I stumbled across the
Very/Relentless clear flexible case and bought it just because it looked
cool.

I'm definitely a veteran on the list - been following Introspective through
its incarnations starting with gopher and electronic billboard days of the
mid 1990-s.  Happy you guys are still around too.  Does anyone remember
Neil's crazy stalker Lydia circa 2007 who derailed so many good
conversations with her downright bizarre talk?  She signed as "Mrs. Lydia
Tennant".

My first thoughts about the album were similar - phoned it in/winged it,
less lyrics, lazy lyrics, less mood.  But "The Dictator Decides" still has
interesting, profound and critical lyrics and "Undertow" still gives me the
kind of butterflies I got from "Heart", "So Hard" and "More Than a Dream".
That's how I know this is another legitimately good PSB album.  Oops, not
good but SUPER!

Bill, I did think your Trump list was fun and inspired and I should have defended it more vigorously.  I was really tired when I posted last night.

I?m glad everyone else is enjoying the album.  I just turned 48 and have been listening to these guys since 1984, and electronic dance music longer than that.  So I?m probably more jaded, or my tastes have changed.   I did enjoy much of Electric, so maybe Super just needs to grow on me a bit.  At least it?s not Elysium, my least favorite album by them.

the event page and that it goes on sale I think May 6. So... could we be

Ah, thanks for clarifying, Bill.  Did anyone go to the Vegas show?
Anything special about it?

I indeed bought four prime tickets for the London show and they are in a
Grand Tier Box (a loge).  The only thing is that tickets will be physical
(not digital) and they won't be printed until days before the show,
presumably to prevent resales and re-resales.

The final results are in for my poll this past week, in which I asked my 
site visitors, as part of my ongoing "Rating Project," to rate each song 
on the Pet Shop Boys' new album "Super" on a scale of 0 to 10, in which 
0 means "one of their all-time worst songs" and 10 means "one of their 
all-time best." And the song that earned the highest average rating is:

* "Burn," which received an average rating of 7.911 out of 10.

And the song that earned the lowest average rating is:

* "Pazzo!" for which the average rating turned out to be 4.741.

To see the complete results, please visit my "Commentary" site at

Results" options in the top navigation bar or click the appropriate link

I listened to the entire set this weekend. Thanks so much, Zvonko. You definitely took my ears & mind to a better place.

This BBC2 series was great and was very enjoyable. Lots of great reminders and inside looks into the PSB & those who know them. While listening, two thoughts came to my mind that I had to share with the group:

1. Rent was originally a punk song? Has anyone heard that version?

2. I thought Bilingual was ahead of its time. The PSB say in the interview they deliberately avoided repeating themselves and avoided what was 'popular' at the time. I've wonder if that impacted their 'popularity' in the mainstream. 
I think that was obvious to us. We know they loved 'mixing it up' and did it so easily. 

I've been torn for a long time about that fact. I've always wanted everyone to enjoy the fun, but deep lyrics, and the killer beats. But I've also loved it for myself and the fans on Intro. We are "in" on a great secret, a great band who makes great music. We're so fortunate!!

Have you noticed that the PSB are counter-culture, too? They follow their voices and passion. I respect it!

MK learned how to "produce" from listening to Prince's songs.

The 43-year-old DJ was inspired to create music as a youngster by learning the 'I Feel For You' hitmaker's vast catalogue of tracks and recalled a meeting with his idol - who tragically died on Thursday (24.04.16) at his Paisley Park estate .

He said: "I taught myself, I listened to Prince a lot, I was sitting in my room learning the chords of his songs and from that point I learned how to produce. I met Prince in Miami, he just showed up and played, it was totally random. Looking back now, when it happened it was completely unannounced. He just walked on stage and started playing with only 200 people there. That's the kind of person he was."

MK - who hails from Detroit and whose real name is Marc Kinchen - just released upbeat house track 'Piece of Me' featuring favoured Rudimental collaborator Becky Hill and is busy finishing up his summer album, which is yet to be named, in time for festival season.

He'll be taking the UK dance calendar by storm this year with sets at We Are FSTVL, Park Life, and SW4 to name a few, but MK is also excited about recently re-teaming with his old pals and electronic duo the Pet Shop Boys.

Speaking about remixing their song 'Can You Forgive Her?' in 1993 and being approached again this year to work his magic on 'The Pop Kids', he said: "That was one of my favourite remixes I did in the nineties. And when they asked me, I was like, 'Yes please!' I jumped to it. Even before I was producing, I always listened to the Pet Shop boys.

"I forget how it was back in the nineties but this year their promoter got in touch with me, and he thought it would be a cool thing to have me remix the Pet Shop Boys again. I heard the song and I loved it."

The final results are in for my poll this past week, in which I asked my 
site visitors their overall general opinion of the Pet Shop Boys' most 
recent studio album "Super" in terms of its relative quality compared to 
their other albums. And those results are most unusual in that there 
turned out to be a tie for first place -- and extremely rare occurrence 
within my weekly surveys! So the responses that received the most votes 
were:

* "It may not be their best, but I think it's one of their better albums"
AND
* "I think it's pretty much an 'average' PSB album, with about as many 
other PSB albums that are better as ones that aren't as good," each of 
which was selected by 35.3% of the voters.
