From psbfan at geowayne.com Sun Nov 2 21:16:00 2014 From: psbfan at geowayne.com (Wayne Studer) Date: Sun, 2 Nov 2014 21:16:00 -0800 Subject: [Introspective] Final results of poll on frequent PSB remixers Message-ID: <3C6C550CC01943AF9F483A88FCB6A392@COMP8> The final results are in for my poll for the past week (plus a day), in which I asked my site visitors to choose, from those who have officially remixed three or more Pet Shop Boys songs, the one they think is the best remixer as well as the one they would most like to remix for the Boys again at some point. And the remixers who received the most votes were: * Shep Pettibone, picked by 35.4% of the voters as the best remixer, and * Stuart Price, chosen by 21.8% as the one they would most like to remix PSB again. To see the complete results, please visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and choose one of the "Past Survey Results" options in the top navigation area or click the appropriate link on my "What's New?" page. Because I'll be taking a short website hiatus, my new poll will run for two full weeks, ending on Monday, November 17. It's a little unusual in that I'm asking you to make two choices -- which by itself isn't very unusual at all -- but the options available to you for your second choice will depend on your first choice. I'm wondering what your favorite song is from your favorite Pet Shop Boys studio album. Now, this may or may not be the same as your favorite PSB song. For instance, my own favorite PSB song is "Being Boring," but its album, "Behaviour," is not my favorite PSB album. That distinction belongs to "Very," so I had to choose my favorite song from *that* album. (Please note that if you choose a song from one album but then go back and select a different album, it will automatically deselect your song choice.) So please mull this over and then make your choices right there on my home page. Thanks to everyone who voted in last week's survey! And I hope you all have a wonderful two weeks ahead! (By the way, if you email me while I'm on hiatus -- which is from computing in general, not just from my website -- I won't be able to reply right away, so please be patient. It may take several days, but I'll respond as appropriate as soon as I'm able.) Wayne http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm From psbfan at geowayne.com Sun Nov 16 21:11:56 2014 From: psbfan at geowayne.com (Wayne Studer) Date: Sun, 16 Nov 2014 21:11:56 -0800 Subject: [Introspective] Final results of poll on favorite song from favorite PSB album Message-ID: The final results are in for my poll of the past two weeks, in which I asked my site visitors to select their favorite song from their favorite Pet Shop Boys studio album ? which may or may not be the same as their favorite PSB song, period. And the song that received the most votes (perhaps not too surprisingly) is: * "Being Boring," chosen by 10.5% of the voters. Incidentally, 22.8% of the voters picked "Behaviour" as their favorite PSB studio album. To see the complete results, please visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and select one of the "Past Survey Results" options in the top navigation area or click the appropriate link on my "What's New?" page. My new poll for the week ahead should prove somewhat simpler in many ways. For one thing, it offers only four choices. Seeing as how the Pet Shop Boys had previously announced that they would be spending at least part of this month working on material for the next studio album, I'm wondering what sort of stylistic approach you would most prefer that they take for that album. Would you prefer it to be like their previous album "Electric," with all of the songs in a consistently upbeat, synth/techno style? Would you prefer that it have that same sort of stylistic consistency, but this time with a different style from that of "Electric"? How about it having a mostly consistent style, only with or or two stylistically different tracks added to lend the album more variety? Or maybe you would prefer no one dominant style, but rather a wide variety of styles. Please mull this over and make your choice right there on my home page. Meanwhile, thanks to everyone who voted in my previous survey. And I hope you all have a fantastic week ahead! Tomorrow (Saturday) is the last full day of my current poll, which asks about your stylistic preferences for the Pet Shop Boys' next studio album. If you haven't voted yet, please take a moment to visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and make your choice from the options provided right there on my home page. On Sunday I will end this poll, post the final results, and launch a new survey for the week ahead. Thanks to everyone who has already voted! And I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! And the response that received the most votes was: * "Mostly a single, consistent style, but with one or two stylistically different tracks tossed into to add variety," chosen by 30.7% of the voters. To see the complete results, please visit my "Commentary" site at http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm and select one of the "Past Survey Results" options from the top navigation bar or click the appropriate link on my "What's New?" page. My new poll for the week ahead may prove a little more controversial than most. Some PSB fans have expressed the opinion that their 2012 album "Elysium" may have been a "contractual obligation album," created by the Boys with relatively little enthusiasm to fulfill their EMI contract before they left their longtime label to start their own independent label. I'm wondering whether you agree with this viewpoint -- although, as usual in my polls, you have more options than merely "Yes" and "No." So please check out your choices right there on my home page and make the choice that comes closest to matching your own opinion about this. And thanks to Patrick Bateman of the Pet Shop Boys Community Forum for suggesting this intriguing question! Thanks as well to everyone who voted in last week's survey! I hope you all have a marvelous week ahead. And Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate the holiday! My new poll for the week ahead is a rerun of a question that I've asked at least twice before, most recently in 2010. But as I generally like to do with such reruns, I'm giving it a twist this time around. I'm asking you to choose your favorite officially released (on CD and/or vinyl) cover by the Pet Shop Boys of a song written by another artist -- but *not* counting those that the Boys released as singles (a-sides, that is). So such very popular covers as "Always on My Mind" and "Go West" are out of the running. Thanks to porkchopkid for suggesting this rerun -- although it was my idea to add that twist for this go-round, which I think will make things a little more interesting and somewhat less predictable. Thanks as well to everyone who voted in last week's survey! And I hope you all have a superb week ahead! Wayne http://www.geowayne.com/psbhtml.htm
